Description

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association Common Ground Country Fair, held in Unity, Maine, is an annual rural living and agricultural celebration.

MOFGA is Transforming Our Food System

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is a broad-based community that supports farmers, empowers people to feed their communities, and advocates for an organic future. Our vision is a future where local organic farming nourishes all people, and sustains thriving ecosystems, healthy communities, and fair economies.

It Has Always Been About Organic

Founded in 1971, MOFGA has been part of Maine’s organic agriculture and sustainable living movement from the beginning. MOFGA is the oldest and largest statewide organic organization in the United States. We have been certifying organic farmers since 1972, and MOFGA Certification Services is one of the country’s oldest certification programs. Read about our history here.

Our Mission: Organic Farming Research Foundation works to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. OFRF cultivates organic research, education, and federal policies that bring more farmers and acreage into organic production.

Our Vision: Organic farming as the leading form of agriculture, supporting healthy and resilient people, ecosystems, and economies.

Features

It features over 1,000 exhibitors and speakers, with a focus on sustainable living, local economies, and organic agriculture. Catch Gordon Merrick, OFRF’s Policy Program Director, and Rebecca Champagne, OFRF’s Conservation Scientist, at the fair this year. They’ll have a booth set up all weekend to provide farmers and other fair participants the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues facing the organic agriculture community, such as research and resource needs. They will also provide information for folks to learn about the ways that OFRF can help farmers and the research community. Given the current federal funding issues, they will also provide a space for farmers to tell their first-hand experiences with federal funding/funding freezes.
